STIs (sexually transmitted infection) can develop after sexual intercourse. Examples of STIs include HIV, gonorrhea, herpes, syphilis, chlamydia, and many other forms. Symptoms vary but can include:

Can STIs be treated or cured?
Treatments can vary but STIs caused by bacteria or parasites (such as gonorrhea, syphilis, and chlamydia) can be cured by antibiotics. STIs caused by viruses (such as HIV or herpes) can be kept in check by antiviral medicine; however, you will still carry the virus and can spread it, though the risk is lower.
How do I get tested for an STI?
If you think you are at risk for or believe you might have an STI, you can get tested at a doctor’s office, health clinic, or an urgent care center. Tests can include taking blood or urine samples, or fluid samples from sores.

STI services are available on Tuesdays from 9:00AM to 3:00PM at our Erie office and on select Mondays at our New Castle office from 9:30AM to 2:00PM. We test for HIV, hepatitis B and C, gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, bacterial vaginosis, and trichomonas.
